Bernard Manning (1930-2007)

Bernard Manning Controversial comic Bernard Manning was born in Ancoats and after living on Moston Bank Avenue in Moston, moved to Mainway in Alkrington. He was renowned for his rather 'politically incorrect' humour which, although this was more acceptable during the 60's and 70's, he was later often branded racist in particular for his sense of humour. A classmate of mine from school, Mark Jones, used to be his neighbour but at the time I wasn't interested as my choice of comedy was more Fawlty Towers and The Young Ones. Bernard established his 'World Famous Embassy Club' where he performed for many years right up to his death and which is still going strong today in his memory.
